335i Coupe M Sport Package in Germany undergoing color conversion by Foil

Saw this article and it caught my eyes. This might interest some of you :)

"Yes that is right. Finally the time has come in Europe that driving a white car can be beautiful. It started already 1 year ago that you were able to see more white cars on German streets, especially premium cars like Porsche GT3, Porsche and BMW's. Mercedes is catching up. With the new world color of the C-Class in white its only a matter of time.

As I ordered the car in black I thought that foiling it with 3M shiny white tape would not also look really sexy, but will also protect my paint at least for 3-4 years.

If I would ever get bored of the color I can still go for grey etc...

Please find below the process of my car going through."

How much is the foiling compared to a respray (by BMW as i assume this wouldn't invalidate warranties etc)? Forgive my lack of understanding, but if the prices are similar (foiling looks time consuming, and time consuming means expensive) why would you bother foiling?

Don't get me wrong, the result looks great, i just don't get it (unless it's considerably cheaper). Isn't the foil prone to tearing like paint is prone to chipping?

PS - love the CSL inspired black roof on the finished car...that looks great.

Foiling isnt cheap ! In a way, it can give you a colour you want to have on your car which you wouldnt even get from the dealer. Its a paint protection to your car and you can choose from matte or glossy.
I remember calling Foil A Car in Dubai, asking about the price to foil an X5, they quoted Dhs 20,000. They usually work on hour basis.
Moreover, the foil wont tear and if in any case it does, they give you a 5 year warranty to always get back to them for any wears and tears.
The best thing is, it looks exactly like any paint, hard do differentiate between a paint or a foil.

Yes, Foil A Car does the foiling in Dubai. Until now it is the only place to get a car foiled in the Middle East. Many cars from other middle east countries come to get their cars foiled here in Dubai.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to change your car colour as you pleased, or to be able to see what a particular colour would look like on your ride. I would like to see my M3 in the same imola red colour as my interior (which is a lot darker than exterior imola red paint), with black grills and a nice set of black rims. 5 minutes later i'd probably want to put it back how it was!

              What would you guys try?

Foiling is absolutely useless on low-end cars (exotics only are worth it)... it costs for just a simple colour anywhere from AED 16,000 to 20,000 and for special colours AED 22,000+ ... respray costs around 10,000 max for a good quality (including door jams etc). I suggest to respray the car to whatever colour you want and then respray back to the original when you want to go back to stock

foil-a-car FTW!.... best way to change color and revert to originals if required (but 20,000DHS for an X5 sounds expensive!!!)

The prices I posted were for my car when I asked them (just for info... never going to do it)... I think SUVs are more expensive

No Wazif, 16000 - 22000 is their approximate price for any car.
