Single or Twin?? that's the question

so the new BMW N54 engine was introduced in the 335i about 2 years ago right??

now the modifications companies are all having this thought:
if we want to develop a turbo kit for the N54, should we use a twin Turbo? or a single turbo??

we know that the main, most general conflict is going to be: Lag VS Power.

using the twin turbo will minimize lag, and will give power all through the acceleration.
using the single turbo will give more power off course, but lag is gonna be more.

    this should be interesting.

Hmmmm well both could be used in a good way.....

Twin will give nice power all through ur RPM and will have lil. to no lag.......

A single is the most desirable for the amount of power produced, but alot of lag..... I would go for the single turbo and use the lag for city driving :D (dont wanna spool the turbo in traffic)

Plus...... twin is more reliable than single

Even JDM cars use twin turbo always, but they throw them away after 60,000and replace them with a huge single turbo :)

Twin Turbo is my choice. Street drivable machine where all the hp shows up around 4000rpm and stays pretty much all the way to redline.

yah most likely Twin Turbo will kick in at 1,500~2,000 RPM

Single ranges between 3,500~4,500 (depends on how big it is)

Cars technicians say that with Twin Garret G35's you can reach to a power close to 500whp!

that's not bad!! any more and it will be a Drag-only car ...

                i vote twin

It's all about "optimization", there are turbos out now that have the best of both worlds. EVO guys are all over the FP Green and FP Red turbos that are optimized for big power gains, all the way to top rpm, and minimal lag.

Using turbos like the T88 for instance is good for 700bhp, but having personally tested one it only delivered from 7000RPM to 9000RPM in a BLINK! Clearly not a street setup... G35 snail is tuners' most popular choice for its price and excellent power curve. I'd suggest an EVO9 RS turbo if found as its the lastest development from a company that's superior in FI engines as OEM products ;) Where's ghoonk when you need one????

                      I voted single...

well guys from my own experience. the single turbos will generate a higher horse power with less tourqe and more boost presure to the engine. i would not recomand this for a daily driven, on the other hand a twin turbo will genrate a less horse power but with higher tourqe figures and less boost presure to the engine and thats good for street use.
