What parts exactly will I need to do a manual swap in the 325i? Infamous, you might be the perfect person to answer since you went through this yourself :)

Can I use the flywheel and clutch from a M40 too?

            Thanks for the info!

if you get the M40 (318) gear box you can use the flywheel and clutch from it :)

Gearbox (Getrag 240 is the most common)
Manual gearbox mount (both aluminum bridge and bushes of your choice)
Manual gearbox spec front half of the drive shaft (longer)
Shifter assembly (carrier, selector rod, bushes, shifter arm)
Clutch pedal comes as an assembly in manual BMW's, it include both the clutch and brake pedal together. You need it.
Master and slave cylinders/pumps and clutch line (NEW!)
Reverse gear sensor (if not on gearbox already)

                Clutch and flywheel:

You can use three different clutch combos.

                M40 (4 cylinder)
Smallest of the bunch, less friction area than the rest. It will slip when hot on a stock engine, so you can imagine it on a modified engine with clutch kick driving style.

                M20 (E30 325i)
Same size as the M50 unit. And is basically a replacement part, but.
If you can score an M20 flywheel, you'd be dumping a good amount of weight vs. the dual mass M50 flywheel. It's not too light and not too heavy, not dual mass nor is it aluminum. You can even skim it down a little from the engine side if you wish.
But only one problem here. Some E30's were equipped with different starter motors, therefore different ring gears around the flywheel. Make sure the starter pinion on your car matches the ring on the E30 flywheel or get the starter off that E30 or any that match. This problem has one more thing to it, some E30 starters don't mount to the M50 so you'll need to simply take apart the E30 starter and remove its pinion gear, then install it on your existing M50 starter. Sound like a headache, but its very straight forward, just make sure things match before you buy them.

                M50 (E36 325i)
OEM with a dual mass flywheel. Nothing special here.

And ofcourse, throw out bearing comes with the clutch kit.

Don't forget to wire the reverse sensor.

Great time to invest in a short shifter.

Guess that's it, you should be good to go. Somebody add anything I might have forgot.

Currently we are working on E36 M3 Drift project car
Most of what is been mentioned here is installed
                  ( GC coilovers,Titan LSD,HYD handbrake , camber plates,lower arms ....etc)
We decide to refresh the engine instead of any other options as our goal was to achieve best handling.

It's in last stages and well post up thread very soon

                  Stay tuned ;)

i think M20 gear box will not set 100% with M50 engine >> as i heard it has to be serpentine

I think I can source these from my friend who is doing a 2jz swap.

The ls2 swap has inspired me big time... So clean and can be used as a DIY guide!

But it looks like I'm gonna do the 5 speed swap, suspension work, hydraulic handbrake and lighten the car for right now. Will definitly consider the LSx swap and roll cage after that... In sha Allah.

Pics of the car will follow, stay tuned :P

Not sure on the E30 vs E36 gearbox. But, the clutches don't differ.
Your problems will be bell housing to engine block bolt pattern, spline axle centering, gearbox mount position and shifter assembly position. If they differ in overall length, then the drive shaft makes it on the list as well.

A/C delete, ABS unit delete, all pointless accessories out the window! And speaking of windows, go polycarbonte or lexan!! Atleast the side windows and leave the windshields glass for clarity.

Good looking honest E36. Though you're almost a member of the Non-M bumpers by choice Club :D...
