    What is this smell!!!!

    Hi guys,

Our 2009 Audi A4 smells like crap when we turn on the AC! Why is that?
You know when u wash or clean something with dirty water, well thats how it smells like!

It could be, if it has been parked in a garage for a long time..
Anyways, im no expert at this, but id suggest take it to the dealer if its still under warranty and they'll sort it out :)

Umm, My brother's VW R32 ( Not Ayham ! :P ) had the same problem couple of months ago !

So at the end it was the AC filter, went to the dealer and changed it....

but this is a common problem for VW/Audi...

What we are doing now, turn the AC button off, while keeping the fan on ... do that when you're like 3 mins away from your destination! :)

That will keep the filter our of humidity and what so ever ! :)

this rotten water smell is a common issue in some cars, it's usually from your AC lines driping on the carpet or something like that. check under the glove compartment for any liquid

I will check, but its the carpets it would smell regardless if the AC is on or off, right?

If the carpets were bad, you can smell the bad smell even if the car is off..

                      1. check filter
                      2. M_powerholic is right, turn off your AC 30 sec before reaching your destination -- this will help to reduce condensation that feeds the bacterial buildup in the plumbing
                      3. Start engine, wind down windows, turn AC thermostat and fan to max temp and speed, leave for 10 minutes.
