    Engines Question

    hey all
    I tried to find some info about the E36 engines :reading: and the question that i didnt have the answer to it is how can i tell the difference between M50 and S50B30 and S50B32 !!?

    forget the M power cover its everywhere now :thumbsdown: and without knowing the chasy number

    thnx and teach me something :D
    would really appreciate the feed back :)

    - Individual Throttle Bodies (ITB's) (only Euro S50 and S52)

    - Brake booster tank shape (S50 VS S52)

    - Engine harness connectors; 2 on the S50 and 3 on the S52

    - VANOS; S50 has Intake side only. S52 has Intake and Exhaust gears.

        i think you want us to tell you the visual difference? throttle bodies on all three engines has a different design. can be easily spotted to help you tell the difference.

            i never owned e36 cars and don't have pics..

            i could've googled it wrong but in the above pics... the b30 and the b32 look alike which i don't think is correct. there is a small difference.

                      m50 comes either 2.0, 2.4, 2.5 150hp,188hp,192hp
                      There is three types of S50 engine
                      S50B30US 240hp regular M50 intake+individual throttle body
                      S50B30 286hp which euro and have six throttle bodies+separate butterflies adjacent (Vanos)
                      S50B32 316hp Dual Vanos (bore of 86.4 mm and a stroke of 91.0 mm others are bore 86)
                      s52b32 comes from the engine M52 (m52b28= 2.8) but aggressive cams and other slight things such (muffler,Oilflow system)

                      the S50 is easier to modify. as it carries On-Board Diagnostics v. I
                      best mod or the first to start with S52 is to change to OBDI as OBD II is much difficult to mod
