    330i- 2007 transmission problems.

    Hello Everyone,

I own a BMW 330i- which was purchased in Nov 2014 at 70,000 kms. The car was single owner driven and very well maintained. It has been trouble free- only the alternator dying back in August 2015 wherein an original one along with a new battery was put in.

Currently the car has 101k kms on it and a week back all of sudden the transmission failure message popped up and the gears sort of locked. I switched off the car and restarted it and the message went away. The error code next day read 495f aspect ratio.
The code was cleared and the problem never returned since then- however the gears feel jerky and the problem somehow seems to just be waiting to return.

I do not launch my car very often and usually have a sedate driving style heavily using the cruise control. Car has been serviced at an Indy (oil changes, break pads, spark plugs)

Any advice of what this could be and where should i get it checked?

    Thanks

Difficult to diagnose without having driven the car or hooked up to an autologic. I'd suggest you take it down to one of our sponsors and have the professionals check them out.

Dont risk driving it more if you feel a difference in the shift. you may be doing more damage which can impact the repair negatively making it more costly.

Thanks Wazif- I did ask my Indy mechanic to have a look but he didnt think its a big problem and said it might be a one of incident. Whilst he is a passionate mechanic I think certain issues are best handled by specialists. As I said there is a problem and I can feel it in the way gears are shifting now.
Do you have any contact details for a specialist at on of our sponsors? I would want to book an appointment rather than just drop in.

      Many Thanks.

For Tranny work take it to Dexol in Deira. I have had good luck there and they ONLY do transmissions. Also while you are there have them change the fluid. I do not believe in forever fill tranny fluid as that is just asking for trouble after many years. If the car is mid life a trans fluid change will help it last a lot longer.
