    Smelly AC

So I've realised every time I switch on my AC it reeks a nasty smell. I have tried to clean my air duct but the smell is still there.

I also tried to turn the AC on max temp with the fan on full left it for twenty minutes. Then turned down the temperature to min. and left it for another twenty minutes. As I was told this would kill the bacteria that causes the smell. Clearly that didn't work. The smell is there. Luckily the weather is nice but I won't survive the summer heat nor the smell.

Any idea on how to fix this?

Not a gas smell. Very musty towel smell, just awful.

Try the AC cleaner available at most filling stations. Its a spray can, follow the instructions in the can.

If that dont help, replace the cabin filters.

I bought this from Adnoc. Used it when i got the X3 as it also had a muggy smell. It worked, no more yucky smell. Actually has a good smell. Will change the microfilter when it goes for service.

I turned the AC on max with circulation on and detonated the can (by pressing down the button) and left it on the passenger side floor. I would suggest covering the dashboard and seat as it sprays upwards. Then left the car and AC on for about 10 minutes. Be sure to air out the car as its a pretty strong smell at first.

Good luck, let us know if it worked.

Replace the cabin air filters, also turning the A/C to the hottest and back down would only create more moisture, and if there were bacteria, promote growth.

The bad smell is gone. However, it's now a mixture of air freshener and a hint of gas. I'm going to AGMC on Sunday to sort it to figure it out.
