    Engine overheating

    Folks,
My car, 523i 2007, has an engine overheating issue. Recently I got the spark plugs replaced and also replace 2 ignition coils.
Again, the engine overheating signal appeared, and I refilled the coolant.
Same issue happened this morning. What could be the problem?
    Can anyone please advise?

Take it to a specialist, could be a blown gasket, or a faulty radiator, thermostat, sensor, leak, etc, depending on milage, really could be many things, easier way to diagnose it is to hook it up to auto-logic and get the codes

      Thanks Meskovic
I took the car to the Bosch Service in AD. They say it could be the Thermostat and are replacing it.
They could not find any other errors.
I will keep the trail updated

Generally, the thermostat is designed to fail in the open position to prevent over heating. Its very rare for a thermostat to fail in the closed position.

What is the mileage on the car? Are you loosing coolant? When do you get the overheating, on the highway or at low speeds in traffic? Is your fan working? Are the belts slipping? Do you hear any noise from the water pump?

Thermostat is a high possibility, this car is equipped with the N52 engine which has an electric coolant pump (should trigger a fault code if faulty) and the fan is electrical.

Going for the thermostat is a good first step as long as there are no coolant leaks, i would recommend you to use the test function in the instrument cluster to keep an eye on the coolant temperature , here is the link on how to do it (How to check Engine Temperature in BMW E60 - YouTube).

if the temperatures go beyond 117 c , that means that there other issues.

Guys, thanks a million for your responses.

I will have an eye on the engine temperature. Interesting feature!

Hasan, I drive both highway and residential areas. The mileage is 130K. Th Bosch guys, told me to check the coolant level regularly too.

            Thanks again, appreciate your assistance
