    bonnet and paint restoration

Hi. My 2006 650i convertible, black, is taking a beating in the sun. front bonnet and faded patches, did a machine polish once, but didnt last. took it to diamond brite specialist who advised i respray my bonnet, now looking into either repsraying the car or wrapping the car. any advise? who does the best paint job? should i wrap? if i paint, what paint protection is best to use to protect the car? thanks

How bad is your paint. Maybe it can be corrected. Please post some pics.

I believe foiling cars is no longer allowed in UAE.

Thanks hassan. I will try to post some pictures if the damage does show up on pics. the damage basically looks like dried polish on the bonnet. mildly faded grey blothces. rest of car perfect. I took it to zain car care hoping to do a Maguires polish and then diamond brite paint protection and engine clean.. but the guy there said that it can't be done as the clear coat os faded and recommended a respray of the bonnet.

              Oh wow! that's bad!

You could try polishing the car properly and see if the swirl marks would go. You might need to do it couple of times through a month or two. There's a place in Jumeirah that is cheap and does a great quality polish. I've done my car many times there and I'm quite satisfied.

The place is located in the basement of the Plaza. Try it out.

thanks, will try them out. i have been to zain car care (mcguiers specialist) and auto pro, both have advised me that polish will not work and the bonnet needs respraying, too much heat and sun damage. rest of car is fine. thanks , will try this out first.

i've been on the search to re-spray my car too. speak with our sponsor Octane for some recommendations.

My car is currently foiled in matt white (bad decision!). while foiling is a good option, it depends on the color and the permanent parking location of the car. If its your own parking spot without any adjacent cars and not exposed to sun then go ahead and foil it. But do keep in mind, maintenance of foil is a PITA. The tear easily if the people/cars around it are not careful (door dings). Any marks on the foil could end up being permanent depending on the source, usually requires cleaning using an alcohol agent.

But the right color and professional installation will transform your car. If you can live with the hassle of care-taking then by all means, go for it :)

I used to work for 3M and i can tell you they have great wraping and paint protection

For car wraping your car must have not been resprayed before, otherwise the wrap if taken off, will peal away the paint if you decided to take it off

For Paint protection you have 2 types, 1- spray on clear coat ( this is cheap and is really good to use short term, but will need to be reapplied every so often a year)
2- Clear film paint protection ( This is more costly, but lasts around 5 years an it much thicker thus, really protecting against stone chips)

for Detailing there are many shops that have good brands ( SONEX, Meguiars, 3M) but it is important

for respraying, you need to go to a really high quality body shop, which uses good quality products ( I personally will be using Octane since i am also in need for my bonnet and front bumper to be resprayed).

I will post some before and after pictures once done!

                    hope this helps

How much did they charge you for the respray only ( hood and bonnet)?

                        Where are they located?
